Bucs CB Wright's suspension upheld
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Eric Wright was suspended for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances after an unsuccessful appeal.
Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano announced the suspension on Monday.
Wright explained in a statement that he was taking Adderall for health reasons.
"It was announced today by the NFL that I am being suspended for four games," he said. "This is a result of taking Adderall at the end of July for health issues I was experiencing. I am extremely disappointed that the suspension was upheld at my appeal.
"I apologize to the Glazer family, G.M. Mark Dominik, Coach Schiano and the entire Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization, my teammates, our great fans, and my family who have stood by me through this entire process. I will continue to prepare myself and look forward to rejoining the team."
Former Bucs cornerback Aqib Talib was also suspended for four games earlier in the season for using Adderall without a prescription during training camp. He was traded to the New England Patriots during his suspension.
Wright missed Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons with an Achilles tendon injury. Undrafted rookie Leonard Johnson started in Wright's spot.
ESPN.com reported that Wright will lose $1.706 million due to the suspension. He signed a five-year, $37.5 million contract in March.
