Buccaneers place DE Adrian Clayborn (biceps) on IR list

In the offseason, Buccaneers defensive end Adrian Clayborn was one of 11 first-round draft picks from 2011 who did not receive a team's fifth-year option, but there was optimism that the oft-injured No. 20 overall pick would rebound in his fourth season in the league.

That's not going to be the case now. Tampa Bay announced Friday it had placed Clayborn on injured reserve with a torn biceps.

It also appears that the team's other starting defensive end, Michael Johnson, may also miss Sunday's game vs. the Rams with an ankle injury.

Clayborn hurt himself on Sunday, but he practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday and Thursday to try and work through the injury. Obviously, though, it was determined Clayborn would have to end his season.

Clayborn missed 13 games in 2012, though when he has been on the field, he's accumulated 13 career sacks in 36 games. As for Clayborn's future after this season, it seems likely he'll hit free agency.
