Bruins D Seidenberg out for season

The Boston Bruins announced Saturday that defenseman Dennis Seidenberg is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL/MCL in his right knee.

Seidenberg's expected recovery time is six to eight months.

The injury occurred during the third period of Friday night's game against the Ottawa Senators.

Boston recalled defenseman Zach Trotman from Providence of the AHL on an emergency basis and assigned goaltender Niklas Svedberg to Providence. Trotman will join the team in Ottawa for Saturday night's game against the Senators.

Trotman has one goal and six assists with a plus-11 rating in 22 games for Providence this season. The 23-year-old has four goals and 22 assists in 70 AHL games since joining Providence in the 2011-12 season.

Svedberg served as the team's backup goalie on Friday after earning his first career regular-season recall earlier that day.

Seidenberg has one goal and nine assists in 34 games for Boston this season. He has played 615 NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers, Phoenix Coyotes, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers and Bruins.
