The Ottawa Senators could be without forward Bobby Ryan for the foreseeable future.

Ryan aggravated a hand injury early in the Senators’ Tuesday game against the Buffalo Sabres and left after playing just 2:50. Following the game, a 5-4 loss to Buffalo, Ottawa coach Guy Boucher said “yeah” when asked if Ryan would be out for “a while”

Added Boucher, “we’ll see how long. I don’t know how long, but he won’t play in the next game for sure.”

Ryan was initially hurt on Nov. 17 against the Nashville Predators when he took a puck to his hand. He then missed two games before returning on Nov. 24 against the Boston Bruins.

“He had been battling the last games to stay in the lineup, but it got to the point where he couldn’t take it anymore,” Boucher said.

The 29-year-old Ryan had struggled through a slow start to the 2016-17 season with three goals and eight points in his first 20 games played. Last season, Ryan had 22 goals and 56 points and in his three previous seasons with the Senators, Ryan had averaged 0.69 points per-game. So far this season he holds a 0.40 points per-game average.
