Bills rookie running back reportedly charged with DWI in Arkansas

What in the heck is going on with the running backs of the Buffalo Bills this offseason?

First there was LeSean McCoy’s altercation with police back in February. Then there was Karlos Williams’ bizarre story of his significant weight gain that he blamed on his wife’s pregnancy.

Now this: Bills rookie back Johnathan Williams, a fifth-rounder out of Arkansas, was arrested and charged with DWI Thursday morning as first reported by KATV in Little Rock, Ark. He reportedly was taken into custody and booked around 3:20 a.m. by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the police report (via KNWA), Williams appeared to have red, watery eyes and spoke with slurred speech. After exiting the car, Williams lost his balance and smelled of intoxicants. He told police he consumed one beer several hours earlier but struggled enough during field sobriety tests to concern police and Williams refused a breathalyzer test under the advisement of his agent, per the report.

In a statement, the Bills said they were “aware of the report and are in the process of gathering information,” adding that they “have notified the league office of the report under the rules of the NFL Personal Conduct Policy.”

Williams, who has overcome a lot of adversity in his life, had been presented with a good opportunity to steal some carries from Karlos Williams (no relation), who was coming off a nice rookie season albeit one that was set back by injuries. It will be interesting to see what happens with these charges close to where he went to college and what the Bills’ response will be.

But seriously, if you’re Mike Gillislee, James Wilder Jr. or Dan “Boom” Herron — the other backs on the Bills’ depth chart — you should strongly consider living in a bubble for the next few weeks until camp opens.
