Best XI: Week 2

Welcome back to the BEST XI! We have a lot of new stats and goodies for you this week so lets get right to it! Just a reminder, this is the Best XI you could have chosen for week 2 of the Yahoo! Fantasy Premier League game.

Cost

This week, the top score fit within our £ 100M budget, coming in at a cost of £ 81.14M*. The new price of our Best XI (if you were to try to create this team now after the price changes) is £ 104.74M. That’s a 29.1%. As I had hoped last week, the prices have stabilized a bit and the increase this week was smaller than last week. The % change last week was 41.5%.

*Keep in mind the cost does NOT include any substitutes.

MVP

The highest score of the week was Stevan Jovetic, who finished with an impressive 26 points after scoring twice against Liverpool. The striker has been impressive in pre-season and despite having a quiet week one, he was great today.

Best ROI

The best return on your investment this week was Liam Moore from Leicester City, who only cost £ 1.00M before the week started but returned an impressive 9 points. Best ROI does not come from the Best XI, it comes from the entire player pool.

Formation

The Best XI was in a 3-4-3 formation this week. The scoring was fairly even this week, with Stevan Jovetic coming in first with 26 points and followed closely by Eric Dier and Nacer Chadli with 24, enough to cover all three outfield positions with the top three scores.

There isn’t much for us to conclude from the formation count just yet but I’m hoping we can find useful information there as the season goes on. I just wanted to introduce this here and let you know I’m keeping track. In case you were wondering, I'm still a proponent for playing as many forwards as possible(3).

Repeat Offenders

This is where I keep track of players who’ve appeared in the Best XI more than once. This feature comes from our good friend Professor M over at NeverManageAlone.com. The guys over there always do great work so make sure to check them out sometime.

So far, we only have one repeat offender:

Eric Dier.

Team Rankings

This is also a new feature that I’m introducing this week. Here, I keep a track of how many times a player from one of these teams has ended up in the Best XI. Tottenham have the lead at four after two weeks of action.
