Bengals' Howard out for the season

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Thomas Howard is done for the season with a torn ACL in his knee.

The injury occurred during Thursday's practice.

Howard was the Bengals' leading tackler last season and turned in a strong effort in Baltimore in Week 1. The 29-year-old was in the final season of a two-year, $6.5 million contract.

"It was an unfortunate thing anytime a player like Thomas, a young talent, gets hurt," head coach Marvin Lewis told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "You have to move on. It's a freak thing that happens but we were lucky to get (Roddrick) Muckelroy back here this morning and get going from there."
