Ben Zobrist, great neighbor, signed autographs outside his house

It’s been quite an amazing two years for Ben Zobrist. He won the World Series in 2015 with the Kansas City Royals, which on its own is pretty great. But this year, he played an instrumental role in getting the Chicago Cubs their first World Series championship in 108 years. He was unstoppable at the plate, hitting .357/.419/.500, which earned him the World Series MVP.

So Ben Zobrist is a two time World Series champion, the 2016 World Series MVP, a fantastic baseball player, father, husband, and you can add one more thing to that list: he’s a great neighbor.

After Zobrist arrived at his home on Thursday, he went outside and signed autographs for his neighbors, who were all waiting in a long line down the block to give him their praise, thanks, and congratulations.

You can see Zobrist in the left center of the picture, talking with a few people in a dark t-shirt. Incredibly, Zobrist is like my fourth favorite thing about this pic. I love that people started randomly decorating the outside of his house for him. Someone put streamers in the fence, and there are several mylar Cubs balloons around the perimeter.

But my favorite, favorite thing about this picture is the sign in the foreground. Someone wrote out a sign in pen and stuck it in the grass. It says:

MVP CAMARO PARKING ONLY

Okay, that’s awesome. Zobrist was apparently out there for three to four hours, chatting with fans, signing autographs, and from the looks of this video from Chicago’s WGN, having a really good time doing it.

Zobrist eventually had to call it a night (there’s a parade on Friday, after all), but when he went inside he told the crowd that he hopes he can get to all of them at some point in the future. After this I really think we need a show called “Mr. Zobrist’s Neighborhood.” Ben Zobrist, won’t you be my neighbor?
