Bellator Final Between Rad Martinez and Shahbulat Shamhalaev Postponed Again

Rad Martinez Says Delay in Bellator Final with Shahbulat Shamhavaev a Blessing in Disguise

When last week’s Bellator 83 main event was cancelled at the last minute due to a bout of food poisoning, the initial plan was to just move it over to this week’s Bellator 84 in Indiana.

Those plans, however, have been scrapped.

Season 7 featherweight tournament finalists Rad Martinez and Shahbulat Shamhalaev had last week’s fight cancelled when Shamhalaev began vomiting in the dressing room area, and New Jersey State Athletic Commission officials deemed him unable to perform.

Although Bellator officials initially intended for the fight to be slotted onto this week’s Bellator 84 fight card, on Tuesday they revealed that Martinez would be unable to fight this week.

Martinez is the primary caregiver for his father, who suffered severe brain damage in an automobile accident in 1991. Martinez needs to be there to take care of his father this week, as his brother, who shares the charge with him, is unable to do so.

The Martinez vs. Shamhalaev featherweight final will instead be move to an undetermined event sometime during Season 8 on Spike TV.
