Bears release OT Scott, sign TE Adams

Veteran offensive tackle Jonathan Scott was released by the Chicago Bears, who re-signed tight end Kyle Adams.

Adams was waived Monday to make room on the 53-man roster for tight end Dante Rosario. The Bears acquired Rosario from the Dallas Cowboys.

Adams has spent two seasons with the Bears and had four catches for 40 yards.

Scott, who has played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions, started seven games after signing with the Bears before Week 2 in 2012. He has a history of injuries and was battling a knee injury in training camp and preseason.

Scott was due $715,000 but his contract wasn't guaranteed. It's possible the Bears will bring him back once he's healthy.

Without Scott, veteran Eben Britton becomes the primary backup at both tackle positions.

Scott had been in contention for the right tackle job that went to rookie fifth-round pick Jordan Mills.
