BASEBALL RECAP: Oregon 8, Austin Peay 1

Oregon advanced to the NCAA baseball Super Regionals by beating Austin Peay 8-1 on Sunday to win the Eugene, Ore., regional.

Jake Reed got the win by pitching seven innings of two-hit shutout ball, and Jeff Housey pitched the final two innings for the Ducks (45-17), yielding a run in the bottom of the ninth. The Ducks will face the winner of the Gary Regional in the Super Regionals.

Austin Peay, the fourth seed in the four-team regional, had beaten Cal State Fullerton 3-0 earlier Sunday and needed to beat Oregon twice to complete the surprising run and win the regional.

But the Ducks got the only run they needed in the first inning without the aid of a hit. A hit batter, a walk and a groundout put Oregon ahead 1-0.

An RBI single by Brett Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, highlighted the Ducks' two-run third inning, and Oregon added three runs on just one hit in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.
