Anthony Davis's 31 sparks Pelicans by Jazz

Anthony Davis scored 31 points and added nine rebounds to help the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Utah Jazz, 119-111. The Pelicans had a strong shooting performance, finishing 47-79 (59.5%) from the field, including 8-16 (50.0%) from beyond the arc. New Orleans (12-12) gets one in the win column after losing to Golden State on Sunday.

Davis shot 12-15 from the field and 7-7 from the free throw line, in a quality performance offensively. Tyreke Evans contributed 19 points and six assists for New Orleans as well. Enes Kanter had a big game for Utah in the loss, scoring 29 points on 12-22 shooting from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line. He also recorded seven rebounds. Trey Burke added 16 points and six rebounds.

As expected, the high-octane offense of New Orleans (ranked fifth in the NBA in offensive efficiency) picked apart the porous defense of Utah (ranked 29th in defensive efficiency), putting up 1.25 points per possession. The Pelicans combined an eFG% of 64.6% with 50.0% 3-point shooting. They are undefeated (5-0) this year when registering marks above 55% and 40% in those respective statistics. The Jazz, on the other hand, are winless (0-7) when allowing opponents to hit those marks.

Utah (6-19) has now lost three straight.

Coming up next, the Pelicans square off against the Houston Rockets, who are 18-5 on the year. The Jazz meet the Miami Heat, currently 12-13 this season. The Jazz have a 0-1 record against Miami this season.
