Another linebacker, maybe a tight end, and more Seahawks notes for Monday
At last count, I believe this is 237 linebackers on the Seahawks’ roster. Unlike Michael Wilhoite, Terence Garvin and Arthur Brown, the latest signee isn’t new to Seattle. Kache Palacio was on the practice squad for almost all of last season. Placed on injured reserve in late December, Palacio had not been tendered a new contract, unlike many on the practice squad. That’s taken care of now, as the former Washington State Cougar is on the roster once more.
Just to clarify a slight exaggeration, the Seahawks only have nine linebackers on the roster as of this signing – it just seems like 228 more than that, especially with all the talk about moving Kam Chancellor up in some situations, or dropping Dion Jordan back. Mike Morgan is still unsigned, by the way – just sayin’.

In other Seahawks news, John Schneider and Pete Carroll may still be thinking and looking far outside the box, as they take a look at Mo Alie-Cox. Don’t bother flipping through your Street and Smith Collegiate guide – sorry, wrong century – don’t try to look up his college gridiron stats, because he doesn’t have any. Alie-Cox gave his all on the basketball court for Virginia Commonwealth University. Standing 6’6″ and tipping the scales at 262 pounds, he impressed scouts with his 4.75 time in the 40 yard dash – only his second ever. Don’t forget, Jimmy Graham was a forward in college basketball, too, so he could certainly give Mo some pointers on making the transition.
In other news, Seattle has shown interest in former Jacksonville Jaguar defensive end Jared Odrick. Odrick is coming off an injury-shortened 2016 season, as he appeared in just six games and recorded twelve tackles and one sack. Like many of Seattle’s deal this offseason, it’s likely that any deal for Odrick would be heavily laden with incentives. Of course other teams are interested in his potential as well, although reportedly the New York Giants have made it known their initial interest has cooled.
Finally, practices begin tomorrow. Many have said that all eyes are on Virginia Mason Athletic Center (say that three times fast, I dare you) to see if Richard Sherman shows up. Uhhh… yeah, he’s under contract, so I have no idea why he wouldn’t show. Backup quarterback Trevone Boykin is also expected to be on the practice field, as he awaits further information on his legal situation. Boykin has a court date on May 3rd on charges of violating probation, possession of marijuana and public intoxication. The incident was in Dallas, if you’re wondering about that marijuana possession charge. Innocent until proven, yadda yadda; Boykin should practice.
