Angels cut 1B Pena, C Torrealba, INF Tracy

With Opening Day a week away, the Los Angeles Angels trimmed its roster on Sunday by releasing first baseman Carlos Pena, catcher Yorvit Torrealba and infielder Chad Tracy.

The 35-year-old Pena, who batted .139 with 14 strikeouts in spring training games, has no plans to retire and hopes to catch on with another team.

"I feel too good," he said. "That's not even an option."

Last season with the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals, Pena hit .207 with eight home runs and 25 RBIs in 89 games.

Torrealba, 35, said Saturday that he would not accept an assignment to the minor leagues. In 61 games last season for the Colorado Rockies, the veteran batted .240 with no home runs and 16 RBIs.

Tracy, 33, appeared in 92 games last year for the Washington Nationals and hit .202 with four home runs and 11 RBIs in 129 at-bats.
