Background

Working his way into a starting role by his second year on campus, Chris Wormley played for the school that he grew up cheering for. Putting in some solid production levels over his first two seasons with Michigan, Wormley became one of the best defensive lineman on the team in his both his junior and senior campaigns.

Named the Defensive Lineman of the Year in both his junior and senior campaigns, Wormley has played a little brother role so far in the draft process. With Taco Charlton getting much of the love at this stage, look for Chris Wormley to be a steal in this draft considering where his current draft stock has him placed.

Strengths

Well built overall and also possesses a very thick frame. Natural when it comes to pass rushing and extremely agile for a man his size. Experience playing inside and outside on the defensive line is also a plus. Able to bull-rush due to his speed-to-power drive. Shows hints of solid pass rushing moves.

Sets decisive edge with arm extension, leverage and anchor. Solid pursuit speed who possesses an above average tackle radius. Able to close down quickly and restricts any cutback lanes. Rarely ever seen on the ground and possesses great balance. Disciplined in approach and very aware and reactive to plays.

Weakness

Doesn’t have the twitch needed to fire out of his stance. Lacks the explosion that coaches love to see and could struggle to get around the edge at the next level. Delayed when reacting to play fakes. Doesn’t have instant wins against blockers and will need to improve his hand speed as a pass rusher.

Remains engaged with blockers for long chalks of time. Effort when in pursuit is inconsistent at best. Lacks anchor to transition into a full time defensive tackle. Brute power rusher who will likely struggle his first season in the NFL. Needs to bring his feet with him and power through offensive tackles.
