Remember Amber and Angela Cope? Heck, how could you forget them?
The twin nieces of 1990 Daytona 500 champion Derrike Cope made their NASCAR debuts in October at Martinsville in the Camping World Truck Series. Driving for Derrike's team, Amber finished 26th, three laps down while Angela finished 30th, six laps behind.
Now with one Truck Series start on their resumes, they're moving to the Nationwide Series this weekend at Iowa Speedway. Beware, Danica, the Cope sisters could get to the Sprint Cup Series before you do.
They aren't locked into the top 30 in Nationwide Series points, but are guaranteed into the race because only 42 cars are attempting the race.
Before their start at Martinsville, the twins worried about not being taken seriously by NASCAR fans. While they still may be a novelty at this stage -- and may not deserve a shot in the Nationwide Series -- they didn't do anything to embarrass themselves in the truck race.
Plus, the Cope twins' continued NASCAR presence is setting up a battle of the NASCAR fashion boutiques between them and Jennifer Jo Cobb if this keeps up. That was the logical progression from the big-box home improvement store war, right?
