Bowles shocks the world with a KO of Torres

Brian Bowles landed the upset of the weekend, if not the year, with a first-round knockout of Miguel Torres, the WEC bantamweight champ and one of Yahoo! Sports top pound-for-pound fighters.

Bowles landed the first punch and takedown of the fight. His wrestling allowed him to smother Torres, though Torres was able to get back on his feet after landing some upkicks. Later in the fight, Torres seemed to be in charge, moving towards Bowles and landing a flurry of punches when Bowles landed a right, knocking Torres to the ground. Bowles finished Torres with a few more punches, shocking the MMA world.

"I didn't caught up in the hype," Bowles said after the fight. 

This is the first time Torres has lost since 2003, and it is only Torres' second loss in his career of more than 35 fights. Before this loss, he was widely considered one of the best fighters in the world.

It didn't show tonight, but Bowles is largely inexperienced, as this is only his eighth professional fight. He has trained with Mike Brown, the WEC featherweight champion. Bowles will likely face Dominick Cruz, who won over Joseph Benavidez tonight.

    That was a great fight. I think just about everyone was guilty of not giving Bowles credit before the fight. I don't think anybody is going to look past him again.

    I dont dislike Torres, but i was rooting for Bowles and i thought he could do it!

    This whole card was pretty good as well. I'm starting to look forward to WEC events more then their big brother the UFC's event. Almost all the fights were exciting.

    Torres has been SOOOOOOOO over rated!!!!!!!! He is finally exposed as the non p4p fighter that he is!!!!!!!!!!!
    Ha, Ha, Ha, he can cry about that all the way home!!!!!!!!!! Little punk is such an arrogant prick!!!! He finally got exposed as a clown!!!!!!!!!

    torres was doing good till he rushed in and walk into a big right hand, then on the ground tried to go for and arm bar open up and got knock out by big left hands..

    These WEC cards are so much better than the UFC's crap.
    Putting Forrest Gump against Anderson, what a joke. I said it the day White announced the match: Bull$hit!!!!! Put anderson against a real fighter: Belfort, Machida, GSP, Rampage, NOT FORREST GUMP!!!!!!

    Impressive, for a few seconds i was certain that Torres had him with his jabs then all of a sudden Bowles countered and finished off Torres on the floor. I believe that Bowles will hold this title for a long time, he actually reminded me of Emelianenko with his calm manner and lethal strikes.

    enjoy the free fights while you can. WEC will be folded into the UFC within 1 year....

    yea, I hope Bowles holds the title for a long time. He has been one of my favorite WEC fighters, along with Mike Brown----way back, from before his destruction of the California Kid (twice!!!!!!)

    Torrez has taken some wear and tear of late. He's had a lot of fights in his career already. Don't see him in lb 4 lb mix anymore unless he can beat some quality fighters in higher divisons. Really only BJ and Spider in top 10 lb 4 lb move up and fight top guys in heavier divisons.
