Three-time National League MVP Albert Pujols(notes) left Sunday's 5-4 victory against the Kansas City Royals with a sprained left wrist and hurt shoulder that he suffered while trying to make a tag at first, the Associated Press reports.

"To be honest, I can't give you guys too much until the X-rays and an MRI [Monday]," said Pujols, according to the AP. "I know I'm pretty sore. Am I worried? Of course. Hopefully, everything will come out negative tomorrow. When I come out of a game, believe me, something is really wrong. Hopefully, cross our fingers and I'll be all right."

The Cardinals have an off day on Monday and then take on the league-leading Philadelphia Phillies, who just dropped two of three to the Seattle Mariners.

Pujols is batting .279 and has hit 17 homers this season.
