Player Notes
Oscar Taveras (ankle) is considered day-to-day.

Advice: Taveras rolled his left ankle while leaving the batter's box Monday at Triple-A Memphis and is not in the Redbirds' lineup on Tuesday night. But Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak -- who is in Memphis this week -- says the club is just being cautious with its top outfield prospect. Taveras missed most of the 2013 season due to right ankle issues. He should make his major league debut at some point this summer.

Cardinals prospect outfielder Oscar Taveras left Monday's game with Triple-A Memphis due to an issue with his left ankle.

Advice: It's worth noting that Taveras had surgery on his right ankle last year, so at least he didn't aggravate the condition. No word yet on how long he'll be sidelined, but it's still a tough break considering the recent buzz about a potential call-up.

Cardinals prospect outfielder Oscar Taveras, who was making his first start of the season in center field on Monday, left the game in the seventh inning after calling for a trainer.

Advice: Taveras looked like he was knocking on the door in St. Louis, but his status could be in question after leaving the game. There has not been any word as to the severity of the injury, or if there was an injury.

Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras is making his first start of the season in center field for Triple-A Memphis Monday.

Advice: Taveras is hitting .297/.348/.500 with three homers and 12 RBI for Memphis this season, which includes a .368/.415/.526 line over his last 10 games. The Cards had been keeping the top prospect in the outfield corners, but it's clear that his surgically-repaired right ankle is feeling well enough for him to try center field again. With Peter Bourjos and Jon Jay sharing center field with the big club, Taveras could potentially force a promotion if he keeps hitting and shows he's comfortable in center.

Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras hit his third home run of the season on Saturday for Triple-A Memphis.

Advice: Taveras is hitting .283/.328/.483 for the season, which includes hits in his previous six games while striking out zero times. He is not lighting up Triple-A, but he is hitting enough to make him the first call-up in the event there is a need in St. Louis.
