Player Notes
Sonny Gray (illness) has officially been cleared to rejoin the Athletics' rotation on Tuesday against the Yankees.

Advice: Gray missed one turn in the rotation and had another one pushed back after needing a brief stay in the hospital due to salmonella. He's back on track now, though, and will take the ball on Tuesday in New York. Chris Bassitt, who has filled in for Gray, will likely be sent down after Sunday's start.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Friday that he'd like to have Sonny Gray (illness) return to the rotation on Tuesday.

Advice: That way, the right-hander would be able to make two starts before the All-Star break. He had to have his last start skipped and required hospitalization due to a nasty bout of salmonella, but he seems to be doing much better now. Chris Bassitt will start in his place again on Sunday, so look for Gray to take Tuesday's series opener against the Yankees in New York.

Sonny Gray (illness) is not expected to need a stint on the disabled list.

Advice: Gray has started to feel much better the last couple days after being knocked out for a while with a bout of salmonella. He should be ready to rejoin the Athletics' rotation early next week.

Sonny Gray (illness) could be placed on the disabled list.

Advice: Gray has been released from the hospital after a nasty bout with salmonella, but he only resumed eating solid food on Thursday and is still weak. A backdated DL move would leave Gray eligible to return as soon as July 11, just before the All-Star break. Chris Bassitt will fill in for Gray again on Sunday.

Athletics head trainer Nick Paparesta said Thursday that the cause of Sonny Gray's illness proved to be salmonella.

Advice: The right-hander missed his scheduled start on Tuesday and had to be hospitalized due to the severity of the illness. He's expected to make a full recovery and should be ready to rejoin the A's rotation at some point next week.

Sonny Gray (illness) was released from the hospital Wednesday.

Advice: Gray had been hospitalized since Tuesday due to "severe gastroenteritis." Despite feeling better, there's no clear picture of when the right-hander might make his next start.

Wed, Jul 1 Rotoworld
Sonny Gray remains hospitalized due to "severe gastroenteritis," according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Advice: The illness has dragged on longer than expected, but it's possible Gray could be discharged later Wednesday or Thursday. His status for his next scheduled start on Sunday remains up in the air, so the A's are keeping Chris Bassitt around in case he's needed again.

Sonny Gray remains hospitalized due to the flu.

Advice: Gray, who had to be scratched from Tuesday's scheduled outing, first started feeling under the weather Monday night and is still being taken care of. Athletics manager Bob Melvin did say the righty is feeling better, but it was too soon to tell when he'd be ready to start again.
