Player Notes
Matt Wieters (elbow) is expected to begin a rehab assignment May 26 at Double-A Bowie.

Advice: And if all goes well, he'll join the O's active roster when first eligible on June 4. Wieters is on the road to recovery from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. He's in a contract year, so the final four months of the 2015 season will be an important stretch in the 28-year-old catcher's career.

The Orioles hope that Matt Wieters (elbow) will be ready to begin a rehab assignment after joining the club in Miami next weekend.

Advice: That would give him about a week and a half's worth of rehab games, as the O's are targeting June 4 as Wieters' return date. The catcher recently began catching full games in extended spring training.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Tuesday that Matt Wieters (elbow) might only play every other day initially once he's activated from the disabled list.

Advice: Wieters recently began catching full games in extended spring training and is expected to be activated on June 4 when first eligible. "I was only going to catch him about four out of seven [days] anyway. But we may do an every-other-day thing with him," Showalter said. "We’ll see how it goes. Today was a good step for him. … Let me get to the fourth first. That’s what I’m OK with. Having Matt every other day is better than not having him at all. And I think that will progress from there."

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Tuesday that he expects Matt Wieters (elbow) back on June 4.

Advice: That's the first day Wieters is eligible to be activated from the 60-day disabled list. The 28-year-old catcher continues to rehab his surgically-repaired elbow at extended spring training and should soon be cleared for a minor league rehab assignment. He's in a contract year, so Wieters will want to hit the ground running when he does finally join the O's active roster.
