Player Notes
Matt Wieters clubbed a walk-off solo home run in the 11th inning against the Braves on Monday.

Advice: The two clubs brought a 0-0 game into the ninth inning, and each team scored once in their half-inning to send the game into extras. Wieters ended the drama with a walk-off solo job to right-center off of Luis Avilan. It's the catcher's first home run since June 25, as he has been scuffling offensively. Wieters is hitting .250/.276/.431 with four home runs and 13 RBI since making his season debut on June 5.

Matt Wieters (back) is starting at catcher for the Orioles on Monday night against the Braves.

Advice: It's a pretty good indication that the back stiffness that held him out Sunday is no big deal. Wieters will hit fifth for the O's against Braves left-hander Alex Wood.

Matt Wieters is not in Sunday's lineup due to a stiff back.

Advice: Wieters had been slated to receive his first start of the season at first base. The back issue isn't considered a big deal, as he's expected to catch on Monday. Caleb Joseph is behind the plate Sunday.

Matt Wieters could see some playing time at first base.

Advice: Wieters has been taking grounders at the position the last couple days. He remains unable to catch on back-to-back days as he builds up strength in his surgically-repaired elbow, so the Orioles are looking at other ways of getting him into the lineup. Wieters has played first base twice at the major league level, drawing one start there in 2011.

Advice: He's still not catching on back-to-back days. Caleb Joseph is behind the dish in Wieters' place.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter on Thursday indicated that there are no plans to begin having Matt Wieters catch on back-to-back days regularly.

Advice: Wieters started behind the plate on July 6 and 7, but that's the only time he's started back-to-back days at catcher since Tommy John surgery and he only did it then because the All-Star break was coming. "Not that I know of," Showalter said. "Matt hasn't brought it up to me, the trainers, [bench coach] John Russell. If and when will be up to Matt, like it was last time. And the trainers. He feels fine and we're going to keep him that way." Wieters has been starting in the designated hitter spot often when he's not catching, so it's not really affecting him for fantasy purposes.
