LHP Jon Lester will start for the Red Sox on Friday night in the opener of a series against the rival Tampa Bay Rays. Typically, Lester bounces back from April struggles with a strong May, and this year has been no different. After getting mixed results in his first four starts (two good against Detroit and Toronto, two not-so-good against Texas and Minnesota), Lester has been consistently solid recently. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in four of his last five starts, going 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA during that span.

Lester held Seattle scoreless until the ninth inning en route to his second complete game of the season, helping the Boston Red Sox beat the Seattle Mariners 6-1 on Monday.
Advice: Lester coasted through the first eighth innings, holding the Mariners to six singles and going to a three-ball count just twice. Lester allowed eight hits, struck out six and didn't walk a batter in recording his eighth career complete game.
