Player Notes
Albert Pujols will be a participant in the Home Run Derby.

Advice: Pujols has crushed 25 bombs thus far, after hitting 28 all of last season. It will be interesting to see if he can sustain this power barrage through the second half of the season. We don't subscribe to the idea that the Home Run Derby automatically wrecks power swings, but there have been several instances of players who entered the derby and saw their power legitimately drop off after the All-Star Break. Whether there's an actual correlation there, rather than simply a perceived one, is more difficult to determine.

Albert Pujols will start at first base for the American League in next week's All-Star Game in place of the injured Miguel Cabrera (calf).

Advice: And deservedly so in what has been a big bounce-back season for the future Hall of Famer. The rest of AL reserves will be Brock Holt, Jose Iglesias, Jason Kipnis, Manny Machado, Mark Teixeira, Russell Martin, Stephen Vogt, Jose Bautista, Adam Jones, J.D. Martinez and Prince Fielder. Xander Bogaerts, Yoenis Cespedes, Brian Dozier, Brett Gardner and Mike Moustakas are the Final Vote candidates.

Albert Pujols blasted his 25th home run of the season on Sunday as the Angels routed the Rangers 12-6 in Arlington.

Advice: Pujols finished the night 2-for-5. He had an RBI single as part of a three-run uprising in the first inning, then tagged Colby Lewis for a solo shot in the fourth to put the Halos up 8-1. He's having a terrific first half, slashing .265/.337/.557 with 25 bombs and 53 RBI.

Albert Pujols went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, helping the Angels edge the Yankees on Tuesday.

Advice: Pujols tied the game at 1-1 when he ripped a solo home run to straightaway center field off of Ivan Nova. He has 24 on the season and seems like a good bet to cross the 40-homer threshold by season's end, which would be the first time he will have done that since 2010. Pujols has also knocked in 49 runs while batting .265/.332/.558.
