Devil Ball Golf - Golf

We've all tried the Happy Gilmore swing. Usually, the ball skulls off into the woods, or we dent a cart, or we fracture our wrists. But that's because we stink. What if a real golfer tried the Happy Gilmore move? The folks at Sport Science, who just like us apparently have too much to drink after rounds, decided to test that theory, and recruited Padraig Harrington to give it a whirl. And here's what happened:

The verdict? It's a seven-minute video, which is an eternity in this fast-paced world, so I'll spoil it for you -- Padraig hits the ball about 30 yards further with the Happy move. But that's only if he hits it dead-on -- not a guaranteed proposition. Still, Paddy, or some other golfer, should be prepared to bust out the Happy Gilmore move one tournament Thursday. I'd pay good money to see somebody do that.

(Thanks to reader Murray Oden for the tip.)

I would pay to see a shirtless, shoeless JD pull the Happy swing move.

It would be funny to see Paddy play the whole round in work boots too.

im pretty sure if someone used this method since they started to play golf they would be able to perfect it, just like how some basketball players have unconventional ways to shoot but are very accurate because they learned that style their whole life.

4:00 minute mark. Absolutely incredible. Just goes to show that these guys know how to hit a golf ball from any position.

Yeah this would be interesting to see on the course. But you know what else would draw a crowd? A golfer with an arm growing out of his ass.

This is so funny... JB holmes should try this. Since he's one of the longer hitters on Tour, he may average 400 yds drive off the tee! LOL!

What's amazing is that his shoulders are in the exact same position regardless of whether he is running 5 yards before the swing or has his feet planted. I can't even keep my shoulders in the same position between swings when stationary.

Is this really that rare and hard to do as they make it out to be? I'm easily a 15-handicap and I can consistently hit the ball as far if not further when I hit it Happy Gilmore style. Although I do play hockey, if that matters.

I think the 2 off the cut, facing an "unreachable" par 5 is the best example of when Paddy 'should' give it a go on the course. But all of these guys are too cautious to ever do it. Sadly in professional sports its often better to fail conventionally than to try something unconventional and risk humiliation.

It would also be hilarious to see Paddy go into the 'Are you too good for your home' meltdown with his accent. I lost it when Happy Gilmore did it, I can only imagine if Paddy did it.
