Madden? NBA Jam? RBI Baseball? What's the greatest sports video game?

Ah, sports video games. The reason why most of us got into this business. Here at Yahoo Sports, we discuss the best sports video games from across the entire athletic spectrum, from NBA Jam to RBI Baseball to Madden in all its many incarnations.

You can check out our individual picks for the best video game in the clip above. Below is the latest episode of our ongoing podcast Grandstanding, in which we delve into much more detail.

We've brought aboard a few friends to help out, giving us a specialized look at some of the major sports genres. First off, there's Shutdown Corner's Frank Schwab (1:25 mark), talking football in all its many incarnations. Then Puck Daddy's Greg Wyshynski steps in to settle the NHL/Blades of Steel debate (11:25 mark) with some on-ice perspective. Finally, Big League Stew's Mike Oz talks baseball (24:57 mark) and basketball (35:04 mark) games, picking the best of each.

You'll note that our favorites are mostly in the late '80s-early '90s wheelhouse, which corresponds exactly to the time that most of us had the most freedom to play video games. If you've got recommendations from the 2000s or 2010s, by all means hit us up.
