Kevin Ware is back to dunking six months after gruesome broken leg

Six months after the rims had to be lowered for Kevin Ware to slice a strand of net after Louisville's championship-clinching victory over Michigan, the junior guard can now get there without any extra assistance.

Teammate Chris Jones posted a video on Instagram this week of Ware finishing a simple two-handed dunk. It won't win any dunk contests, but it's a sign of the progress Ware has made since the gruesome compound fracture he suffered in the first half of Louisville's Elite Eight victory over Duke.

Ware has maintained that his goal is to return in time for the start of the upcoming season, but Louisville coach Rick Pitino suggested he favored a more cautious time-table earlier this month. Pitino told the Louisville Courier-Journal he anticipated Ware just beginning rehab on the court in mid-October.

"We're going to take our time. I'm not saying we're going to redshirt him, but we'll take our time because it's a very serious injury," Pitino said. "He's going to have to get his confidence back. He asked me the other day if he should look at it on tape for the first time. I said there's no reason to, I never did."

Whenever Ware returns, it will be terrific to see him back on the floor. And if Ware can regain the explosiveness he had prior to his injury, then Jones may be right about what he said in the below video. Ware would be a lock for comeback player of the year.
