August comebacks: Nadal and Roddick to return to Tour

That epic Wimbledon final was less than three weeks ago, but it feels like ages since Andy Roddick has stepped onto a tennis court. The wait for his return won't be much longer.

On his Twitter page Monday, Roddick announced he would be returning from his hip flexor injury in early August at the Legg Mason Classic in Washington D.C.:

keep getting asked when my next tourney will be.... i will see all of u in washington in two weeks

You can debate whether it was a hip flexor that forced Roddick out of two recent tournaments or the need for a break after a mentally and physically taxing Wimbledon. Either way, he'll have three weeks to prepare for the U.S. Open upon his return.

The bigger comeback story of August belongs to Rafael Nadal, who recently announced he'd be returning to the tour in Montreal on the 8th of the month. Nadal, of course, hasn't played since losing to Robin Soderling in the fourth round of the French Open.

Nadal lost his No. 1 ranking to Roger Federer while recovering from knee tendinitis, but should be the No. 2 seed when play begins at Flushing Meadow at the end of the month.
