DTotD: Philippe Mexes given four-match ban for hitting Giorgio Chiellini

Juventus beat Milan 3-2 on Sunday, but that was just part of the Rossoneri's problems on the day. Milan's Philippe Mexes weirdly punched Juve defender Giorgio Chiellini while defending a corner kick before eventually getting sent off in the 74th minute with Juve up 2-1. A minute later, Chiellini scored Juve's third goal, which would prove to be the difference in the final score.

On Monday, it was announced that Mexes would be punished with a three-match ban on top of the automatic one-match ban for his red card. Said Chiellini of the incident after the match (via Football Italia):

“Some people are repeat offenders. Toughness and determination in football should be praised, because you have a hard tackle and shake hands, but this is not football.

“This sort of thing needs to be punished heavily, because it is not fair play and it is not football. I’ve had some tough tackles in my time, but I don’t recall ever doing that."

On top of that, Milan were also ordered to play a match behind closed doors and fined €50,000 for their fans' chants consisting of "territorial discrimination" at Juventus Stadium. And that's how you complete a hat trick of horribleness.
