DTotD: Argentine riot cop hits footballer in the face with a club

Trouble with the visiting fans during the Friday night match between Newell's Old Boys and Belgrano prompted the riot police to violently herd people out of the away stand. As they did this, Belgrano players attempted to defend their supporters from the pitch, agitating the riot cops further. And so, despite an apparent lack of provocation, one riot cop decided to wallop Belgrano defender Gaston Turus in the face with a baton.

You can see the incident best in the replay at the 3:30 mark in the video above. Turus came away with a bloodied cheek, but finished out the match (which ended 2-0 to Newell's). According to the Guardian, his teammate, Luciano Lollo, was sent off for allegedly attacking an officer, though. After seeing what happened to Turus, referees everywhere thought to themselves, "I should get a baton."

This has been the Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicle of unfortunate events.
