Branislav Ivanovic accepted Luis Suarez’s apology, felt weirded out by news coverage

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has now confirmed that he accepted Luis Suarez's apology after the Liverpool striker bit him on the arm during a match last month, resulting in a 10-match ban. But Ivanovic isn't nearly as concerned with any of that as he was with the media coverage of the attack and how he was suddenly one of the most talked about names in the game.

From the Guardian:

"When it happened I was surprised and angry," the Chelsea defender told the Serbian newspaper Vecernje Novosti. "But after the game I calmed down, and all was forgotten. We spoke on the phone, I accepted the apology, the police did not press charges.

"It was a really strange situation. Overnight I was everywhere because of what happened even though I was only a minor character [in the story]. For the first time in the news everything was about Ivanovic."

That last line is my new favorite instance of someone talking about themselves in the third person. You can almost see Ivanovic looking through newspapers and TV coverage and websites and then his jaw drops and his eyes go wide and he says to no one in particular, "Everything is about Ivanovic."

On the subject of Suarez's ban, Ivanovic seems to think it's quite fair, saying, "They took into account his past excesses and previous punishments. They added everything up and reached seven games, plus the three he would have had for being sent off."
