Nick Bjugstad busted open on nasty fall into boards (Video)

Was it an accident or something else?

In the second overtime of Game 5 of their divisional semifinal series, Nick Bjugstad of the Florida Panthers fell violently face-first into the top of the boards. The impact pushed his visor up and a gash opened on his hear, with blood spilling on the ice.

Panthers trainers rushed to the ice and treated Bjugstad as he was flat on the ice. He was eventually helped to the back and did not return to the game.

Now, watch the replay: What appears to be a toe-pick from Bjugstad also appears to feature Shane Price of the New York Islanders slashing Bjugstad’s left leg, which buckled before he fell to the boards.

Did it cause the tumble?

In any case, hopefully Bjugstad is OK, given the head issues he’s had in the past. As this was a very scary, rather grusome scene.

The Islanders won the game in double-OT to take a 3-2 series lead.
