NHL Three Stars: Mrazek stops Ovechkin's shot barrage; Eichel heats up Sabres

No. 1 Star: Petr Mrazek, Detroit Red Wings

The young Red Wings netminder stopped 38 of 38 Washington Capitals shots on goal in a 1-0 win. This included 15 shots on goal from Washington sniper Alexander Ovechkin. The Red Wings have won four of their last five games. Mrazek and Jimmy Howard have alternated all those starts.

No. 2 Star: Jack Eichel, Buffalo Sabres

The rookie was electric for the Sabres in a 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Eichel scored a goal and added an assist to help the Sabres pick up their fourth victory in five games. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft has five points in his last three games.

No. 3 Star: Daniel Sedin, Vancouver Canucks

The Canucks star scored one goal and added three assists in a 5-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Columbus coach John Tortorella called Vancouver’s goals “freebies” in the loss. The game was Tortorella’s first against his former team since he was fired by Vancouver in the summer of 2014. Sedin has 15 points in 16 games this season.
