• Two NHLs? With promotion and relegation? Jesse Spector on this radical idea: "It is clear that even with the implementation of a salary cap coming out of the last lockout, several teams simply cannot compete financially with the league's heavyweights. So, why not cut the dead weight?"  [Sporting News]

• After casually demanding a trade in June, Anaheim Ducks forward Bobby Ryan took a step back this week in an interview with Eric Stephens: "But about 10 minutes after the interview, I was like, 'Gosh, I shouldn't have done that, seeing that I'm teeing off on the 37th hole of the day after 11 o'clock.'
