Marian Gaborik’s first game back ends with broken collarbone (Video)
Marian Gaborik missed 17 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets with a knee sprained, but returned to the lineup on Saturday night against the Philadelphia Flyers.
His comeback lasted four shifts.
Gaborik suffered a broken collarbone at 10:40 of the first period, getting sandwiched between Zac Rinaldo and Brayden Schenn.
Ironically, Gaborik picked up an assist on the play, as Ryan Johansen scored on a rebound of his shot.
Rinaldo delivered the blow that sent Gaborik to the dressing room, striking Gaborik in the left shoulder with the upper part of his right arm. The impact sent Gaborik into a trailing Schenn and down to his knees. Gaborik skated off and did not return.
… There was no immediate timetable for his return, but broken collarbones suffered by adults are said to take roughly six to 12 weeks to heal. However, the recovery period can vary wildly depending on the severity of the fracture.
Well, that doesn’t look good for the Slovaks in Sochi, depending on his rehab.
Gaborik hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire this season, but has 12 points (5-7-11) in 18 games.
Keep in mind that Gaborik is in the last year of his contract, paying him $7.5 million. GM Jarmo Kekalainen has taken a wait-and-see attitude with the impending UFA; guess he’ll have to wait a little longer.
