KHL player scores cringe-worthy own goal during rout (Video)

The good news (at least) for Vadim Kudako of the KHL’s Severstal is that this blooper you’re about see didn’t cost his team the game on Monday. CSKA won it handedly, 7-1, as they moved closer to Lokomotiv in the Tarasov Division.

The bad news is, well, this blooper was quite the blooper, and if it happened in North America it'd be on a Don Cherry DVD featuring his typical commentary. Instead, it'll live on YouTube.

Oof. That is a rough one. That’s Maxim Mamin forechecking Kudako into making that error. Right idea, but poor execution.

The own goal also gave us the perfect sequence on how teams typically react in these situations:

1. The exasperated goalie

"Do you know what this is going to do to my save percentage, Vadim?"

2. The close up shot of the perpetrator as he skates to the bench in shame

"Maybe the camera won't notice me. Maybe the camera won't notice me. Maybe..."

3. Coach hangs his head like a disappointed father

"I tell them 'when in doubt, up the boards, up the boards.' They never listen to me."

4. Finally, the “Cheer up, it's ok, we’re only down 4-1 now” pat on the head from the trainer

Somewhere Steve Smith is getting sympathy pains.
