Boston Pride, Montreal Les Canadiennes to play at Winter Classic (Report)

Like the Avengers, Power Rangers, and even the Planeteers, good things happen when forces are combined.

On Hockey Night In Canada, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported the Boston Pride of the NWHL and Les Canadiennes de Montreal of the CWHL will take to the ice at the Winter Classic site in Boston the day before the event and prior to the alumni game.

Details are minimal at this point. One thing Elliotte didn't say on air was select players not on Les Canadiennes or the Pride's current rosters would be invited to participate as well. Expect the best of the best from each league to make a strong showing. If you were ever planning to visit Boston in the winter, New Years Eve might be the time.

When contacted for comment, both leagues swiftly said they didn't have one. So you know what that means ... EVERYTHING IS TRUE! (Probably.)

Obviously this is a HUGE deal for women's hockey. This is also an important step in the relationship between the two leagues. Up to this point, both acted as if they didn't want to come within a Fruit By The Foot's length of each other.

We'll have more details once a formal announcement is released.
