Arizona Coyotes scrum to keep Rangers puck from crossing goal line (Video)
The New York Rangers thought they scored a goal in the first period of their game against the Arizona Coyotes. Derek Stepan appeared to celebrate the score off a scrum.
Except there was no goal. The referee blew the play dead and the above replay showed the Coyotes teamed up to keep the puck from crossing the goal line. The review lasted several minutes during the game but it appeared the puck indeed did not cross the goal line around Arizona Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith.

Below is the reasoning from the NHL. The referee on the play was TJ Luxmore.
At 10:08 of the first period in the Coyotes/Rangers game, video review confirmed the referee's call on the ice that the puck did not cross the Arizona goal line. No goal New York Rangers.
Coyotes forward Shane Doan appeared to push the puck under Smith, halting its trajectory and likely preventing Rick Nash’s 700th career NHL point from sliding into the net. Antoine Vermette also helped on the play. Smith's stick was angled in such a way that it could have halted the puck before it crossed the line. Talk about teamwork.
The game is the first for former Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle against his old team. Arizona traded Yandle – who played the previous nine years with the Coyotes – to the Rangers last season for a package that included young forward Anthony Duclair.
Duclair is also in the lineup for the Coyotes and has five goals on the season.
