If you were looking forward to seeing Tim Tebow playing quarterback or any other position for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013, you can stop doing that now. At his introductory press conference, newly-hired general manager David Caldwell slammed the door on the Jaguars acquiring Tebow this or any offseason.
“I can’t imagine a scenario where he’d be a Jacksonville Jaguar,” Caldwell said when asked about Tebow on Thursday.

In late December, a report surfaced that Tebow was "a virtual certainty" to become a Jacksonville Jaguar in 2013. The report made some sense as Tebow is from the Jacksonville area and his popularity would help the Jaguars at the box office. The Jaguars were one of three teams to have an interest in Tebow last March. The former Heisman Trophy winner's tenure with the New York Jets will be coming to an end this offseason. The team bypassed him in order to start 2011 seventh-round pick Greg McElroy when head coach Rex Ryan decided to bench Mark Sanchez.
One hiccup to the Dec. 22 report, however, was that the general manager and head coach at that time - Gene Smith and Mike Mularkey - were not guaranteed to be back in 2013. How could owner Shad Khan conduct a proper search for a new general manager if the candidates were going to be forced to acquire a quarterback who couldn't beat out Sanchez or McElroy in New York?
Thursday's comments from Caldwell show that the Jaguars owner is putting football first, not forcing the GM to burn a roster spot on Tebow and entrusting Caldwell to build a football program the right way which, if successful, will result in more wins and consistently solid ticket sales at EverBank Field.
