Urban Meyer is ‘disappointed’ in Evan Spencer’s comments about Alabama and Florida State

It has been an interesting 24 hours for Ohio State wide receiver Evan Spencer.

First, the junior told reporters that the Buckeyes would ‘wipe the floor’ with Alabama and Florida State. After his comments made headlines, Spencer backtracked and apologized via Twitter for his comments, saying that he "was having fun with the media" and “did not mean to disrespect” either team.

Now Tuesday, head coach Urban Meyer expressed disappointment in Spencer’s comments, calling it poor sportsmanship and disrespectful.

Spencer’s comments have caused a bit of a stir, but Spencer deserves credit for apologizing and Meyer rightly publicly chastised his player and privately spoke to him. As the Buckeyes try to make a case for landing a spot in the BCS Title Game, they'll need to limit the distractions, continue to play dominant football, and hope either Florida State or Alabama loses.

Incidents like this can't help.
