Tajh Boyd to return for another year at Clemson

Tajh Boyd's return to Clemson means the Tigers will keep scoring points in bunches and winning plenty of games in 2013 as well.

Clemson's quarterback, who seemed to be a solid but not great NFL prospect this year, won't come out early for the draft this year, he announced. That's not a huge surprise, but it's great news for Clemson.

The Tigers can start to think big for next season.

The knock against Clemson was it played two good opponents in the 2012 regular season, Florida State and South Carolina, and lost to both. But the Tigers made a statement in the Chick-fil-A Bowl by beating LSU, a very talented team that was in the national-title picture before a last-minute loss to Alabama. That gives Clemson a lot of positive momentum into the offseason.

The Tigers lose some talent, such as running back Andre Ellington, but there is a lot coming back. Boyd is the centerpiece. He's coming off a season with 3,896 passing yards and 36 passing touchdowns.

Clemson kicks off the 2013 season on Aug. 31 with a home game against Georgia, which will have its stellar quarterback Aaron Murray back as well. That's a game that should instantly clarify the national-title hopes for two teams. Only 233 days to wait.
