Reports: Oregon RB Tyner could miss season with shoulder injury

Oregon running back Thomas Tyner is reportedly likely to miss the season after he underwent left shoulder surgery on Friday.

Tyner's father told CSN Northwest that the surgery was successful but that his son would be out for the year. He told OregonLive.com, that Tyner would "likely" miss the season.

According to the reports, pain from a shoulder injury Tyner suffered against Washington in October of 2014 is what led to the decision to have the surgery. He attempted to avoid an operation but ultimately couldn't.

A spokesperson told ESPN the team wouldn't comment about anything related to a possible absence of Tyner until Monday, when fall camp begins.

Tyner ran for 573 yards as a sophomore in 2014. He was expected to be an important piece of Oregon's offense again in 2015 along with running back Royce Freeman. Both running backs were named to the Doak Walker watch list. Freeman ran for 1,365 yards and 18 touchdowns while Tyner had five touchdowns. Tyner also returned kicks for Oregon.

The Ducks are also breaking in a new quarterback, either Jeff Lockie or Vernon Adams. 2014 Heisman winner Marcus Mariota was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Tyner was a five-star recruit in the class of 2013. He was the No. 2 running back in the country and the No. 17 player overall. His absence may force Oregon to move Byron Marshall back to running back. Marshall was incredibly productive as the team's leading receiver last year. He caught 74 passes for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns.
