Nebraska fan Jack Hoffman has a big night at the ESPYs

The ESPYs are a pointless but harmless summer event, a competition that somehow attempts to pit random sporting things against each other so ESPN has something to program and promote over the sports desert of the baseball All-Star break. However, if the ESPYs are going to exist, kudos to them for giving 7-year-old Jack Hoffman a night to remember forever.

You may remember Hoffman from earlier this year, where he scored on a long touchdown run in the Nebraska spring game. Hoffman was battling brain cancer, but in June he completed his final chemotherapy treatment. What better way to celebrate than stepping out on the red carpet with some of sports' biggest stars?

Above he's hanging out with Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. Manziel and South Carolina defensive star Jadeveon Clowney have been doing some light trash-talking at the SEC Media Days, but they're on the same page when it comes to hanging out with Jack:

And here he is with Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez, who was one of his blockers during the spring game touchdown run.

Hoffman even got a pretty nice souvenir to take home with him from Los Angeles: the ESPY trophy for Best Moment. Rewatching his run, it seems like voters made a really solid choice.

A few other fun Jack things: Nebraska put out a box score from the spring game featuring the 69-yard scoring run, and here he is on the cover of "NCAA Football 2014." You really can't say enough about what Cornhuskers coach Bo Pelini and his program have done for a brave fan. It's just really, really awesome.

(Also worth watching from last night's ceremony? This Robin Roberts mini-documentary.)
