Missouri names Josh Heupel its offensive coordinator

Missouri has named Josh Heupel it’s new offensive coordinator, the school announced Thursday.

Heupel spent the past season as the offensive coordinator at Utah State. He replaces Josh Henson, who was not retained by new coach Barry Odom.

Heupel is probably best known as a consensus All-American quarterback and Heisman Trophy runner-up for Oklahoma. He led the Sooners to a national title in 2000.

He also spend 2006-2010 as Oklahoma’s quarterbacks coach and helped Sam Bradford to a Heisman Trophy and a the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft. Bradford’s successor, Landry Jones, also is in the NFL.

Prior to the 2011 season, Heupel was promoted to co-offensive coordinator, but he was fired prior to the 2015 season.

Utah State, which dealt with quarterback injuries, ranked 60th in the country in scoring offense with 29.7 points per game, and had 370.8 yards per game, which ranked 92nd in total offense.

Missouri averaged 280.9 yards per game, which was last in the SEC, and was 127th in scoring offense with 13.6 points per game.
