Joker Phillips already answering questions about job security at Kentucky

Losing to an in-state team that had never beaten a BCS school before is going to bring up some questions about a coach's job.

Joker Phillips seems to understand this.

The Kentucky coach answered many questions about his future during his weekly press conference, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Phillips said all of the typical things that you hear from a coach under fire, including that he doesn't have time to worry about it because he and his staff are getting ready for the next opponent, which happens to be Florida.

While Phillips' comments about his future were predictable, the same can't be said about the reaction from a couple of Wildcat players.

The Courier-Journal classified the comments as "interesting," and we tend to agree:

"We more rally around each other, especially the senior class," defensive end Collins Ukwu said. "This is our last time, regardless if he's going to be here or gone."

Certainly a rather lukewarm way to respond to a question about your coach's future. And in case there was a question about that being an isolated opinion, there was another, again via the Courier-Journal:

Said junior linebacker Avery Williamson: "We've got to just play for your teammates. We can't worry about him losing his job or anything like that. You can't worry about that. We're not focused on that. We're focused on getting a win. I'm focused on helping out (Ukwu) end his last year good."

Oh boy. There's nothing really wrong with players worrying about themselves, especially the seniors, over what might happen to their coach when they're gone. It's just unusual to hear players pass on a chance to defend their coach.

Phillips might need to start winning some games, or the speculation is only going to get louder.
