Gordon Gee fallout continues, as Bret Bielema issues statement on Gee’s ‘thug’ remark

Gordon Gee might be busy for weeks making calls just to apologize for what he said at a meeting in December.

Gee's bad stand-up routine managed to insult or infuriate just about everyone in college football. One comment brought about two phone calls and two apologies, one to Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez and another to Arkansas coach Bret Bielema.

Gee said Alvarez told him Bielema was a "thug," which seemed to catch the latter two off guard. The two men might not be going out to dinner anytime soon after Bielema suddenly left Wisconsin last December, but "thug" doesn't seem like it fits.

Alvarez said he accepted Gee's apologies. Bielema ... well, he kinda sorta accepted the apology but mostly scolded Gee for speaking out of school.

"Dr. E. Gordon Gee and I have spoken regarding comments he has now labeled as unfounded, inaccurate and unfair," Bielema said in a statement. "While I am appreciative he did apologize, my sincere hope is Dr. Gee realizes given the stature of his position the full power his words have to affect public perception. Throughout my career, I have strived to make my name synonymous with high character, values and integrity, and I will continue to do so.”

The only bad thing about this whole incident is you'd figure Gee probably will tone it down from here on out. That's too bad. We could listen to his routine for hours.
