Georgia CB Shaq Wiggins to transfer

Georgia cornerback Shaq Wiggins, who started eight games as a freshman last season, is transferring.

"Shaq and I have been talking over the last few days and a fresh start is what he believes is in his best interest," Georgia coach Mark Richt said in a statement. We respect his decision and certainly wish him nothing but the best."

Wiggins told UGASports.com via text Wednesday that he wasn't leaving the program. But a source told the site that Wiggins had been concerned about playing time in the fall. He had spent the majority of spring practice on the second team.

He's also the second Georgia DB to transfer before the 2014 season. Josh Harvey-Clemons, who was suspended and subsequently dismissed, transferred to Louisville.

Wiggins was a four-star recruit out of high school according to Rivals, was the No. 31 cornerback in the country and the No. 23 player in the state of Georgia.

He had 19 tackles and two interceptions in 12 games in 2013.
