Alabama running back Dee Hart was arrested Sunday and charged with possession of marijuana and giving false information, but in a statement released by the university, the football team is saying Hart’s actions are no longer their problem.

Alabama said Hart hasn’t been with the program since the Sugar Bowl loss in January even though he’s still listed on the online roster.

"Dee Hart has not been a part of the football team since the bowl game and has not participated in any of the off season program,” the statement read. “Hopefully he will learn from this mistake and continue to work toward completing his degree, which he is on track to do by the summer."

Hart was released from jail after posting a $1,300 bond. Both charges are misdemeanors.

According to TideSports.com, Hart tried to dump a bag of marijuana in a police car while being questioned for using counterfeit money at a gas station less than a mile from his apartment. When police questioned him, Hart gave a false name.

"When officers opened the door to let Hart out of the vehicle to be processed, they smelled a very strong odor of marijuana coming from the back seat area," Blankley wrote in press release sent Monday. "Officers located a Ziploc bag containing eight grams of marijuana beside his feet."

Police are still investigating claims that he used counterfeit money.

Hart, a sophomore, was buried on Alabama’s running back depth chart, but had 22 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown last season. He also made nine special teams tackles.
