Mike Rice coaching daughter’s AAU team, supported by players’ parents

Rutgers University deemed Mike Rice unfit to be coaching its men's basketball team two weeks ago and fired him after video of Rice physically and verbally assaulting players created a national outrage.

But parents of teammates of Rice's daughter, Katie, don't seem to have any concerns about Rice's continued involvement coaching their daughters. Deadspin.com reported Rice was on the sideline coaching the 12-year-old AAU girl's team Saturday night.

The Asbury Park Press reported Parents of players on the AAU team defended Rice on Twitter after the Deadspin report was published and some claimed distortion on the part of the writer.

“The Deadspin report is a gross misrepresentation of the facts,” said an anonymous source close to the AAU team who was quoted by SNY.tv. “The team’s parents are fully behind Coach Rice and his instruction of their daughters.”
