Chavaughn Lewis bails out Marist with heave from beyond half court

Sophomore Chavaughn Lewis from Marist provided the most improbable buzzer-beater on a night filled with them in college basketball.

Lewis heaved the ball at the rim from two steps beyond the 3-point line on the opposite end of the court to tie Iona and force a second overtime. Lewis has scored in double figures in 16 of his past 17 games and finished with 21 in a 105-104 victory for the Red Foxes. He also made a pair of crucial free throws in the second overtime to help secure Marist's sixth win of the season.

Lewis' big shot helped end a four-game losing streak for Marist. It was only the second win for the Red Foxes since before Christmas.

Losing to the last-place team in the Metro Atlantic is tough on Iona, which is trying to stay within reach of league-leading Niagara. Iona fell another game back instead at 14-10 and 8-5.
