1. The most alarming aspect of Notre Dame's 67-63 road loss to St. John's was Jack Cooley's disappearing act. Cooley, the Big East's lone big man averaging a double-double, managed just 10 points and four rebounds in a season-low 18 minutes. He spent the final 11 minutes of a close conference game on the bench, likely because St. John's was able to beat him off the dribble with smaller, quicker big men and he wasn't able to take advantage of those matchups at the other end in the post.

2. An amazing statistic courtesy of the Wall Street Journal: In Duke's last 31 road losses, the opposing team's fans have stormed the court 25 times, which of course includes NC State students' flooding the floor after Saturday's upset win. Some people will point to Duke's championships or its number of weeks at No. 1 as proof of Mike Krzyzewski's amazing success. I'd argue that court-storming stat is as telling as anything.

3. They've never coached with one-another, yet Butler's Brad Stevens and VCU's Shaka Smart are inarguably linked at the moment by their decisions to remain at their respective schools rather than jumping to more high-profile programs. USA Today explores the rationale behind those choices and the relationship between two of college basketball's most coveted coaches.

4. With the WCC probably a two-bid league this year and Gonzaga undoubtedly laying claim to one of them, it places great importance on the head-to-head matchups between BYU and Saint Mary's. The Gaels and Cougars meet for the first time this season Wednesday in Provo in a game that will give the winner a leg up in both the WCC race and the chase to secure an NCAA tournament bid.

5. Even though UMass initially labeled the right knee injury guard Jesse Morgan suffered last week as just a sprain, you knew from the way the knee buckled that the diagnosis could easily get worse once the swelling went down and an MRI became possible. Alas, UMass' worst fears were confirmed as Morgan has a torn ACL and will undergo season-ending surgery, robbing the Minutemen of their second-leading scorer.

If Indiana's Victor Oladipo is in a dunk video, usually he's the one delivering the jam. Not so this time. That's Wisconsin center Jared Berggren getting some unexpected air and putting Oladipo in a poster during the first half of the Badgers' 64-59 victory in Bloomington on Tuesday night.

"In the last seven, eight years, I have coached teams that have absolutely whomped on people, and this ain’t one of ‘em Every game, we are going to be in is going to be a dogfight." -- Kentucky coach John Calipari after his team's come-from-behind 75-65 home win over Tennessee. In their previous two SEC games, the Wildcats lost at home to Texas A&M and needed a missed shot clock violation to win at Vanderbilt. (Lexington Herald-Leader)
